I thought I'd post this since alot of the newbs (especially the newbs who register just to request) don't know how to do it.

First go download Half Life Model Viewer from here http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/hlmv/

It lets you view and modify models outside your game.

Once its installed open it and click file/load model...

Then select your .mdl file wherever it is on your hardrive. It should load and you'll be able to see the mdl in the window.

If you don't know what a .mdl file is you are a sad sad little man but I'll tell you anyway. In your half-life mod folder (in this case cs) theres a folder called models. In this folder there are a hundred or so different files called .mdl files.

A v_xxx.mdl is the model you will see the most for it is the model that has the hands and gun you will use ingame.

A w_xxx.mdl is a world model that you will see on the ground when a gun is dropped.

A p_xxx.mdl is the model that you will see in other players hands.

Ok now go find the model you want.

Now click on the tab called "Texture". This is where it displays the skin of the gun. There should be a little pull down list. Click on it and find the skin you want to replace.

Press "Import" and select the bmp that you want to replace the original with. In some cases the skin won't fit so you'll need to edit your bmps size to the size it displays in the window. This can be done with pretty much any image program. I use paint shop pro but you can just as easily edit it in mspaint.Another important thing to remember is you can not change the color level of the bmp. If you do it won't work unless you change it back.

Ok once you're sure everything is right with your bmp import it over the matching skin. If the image looks like your bmp it has worked. Go back to the render or sequence tab to look at your modified skin on the model. To save the modifications just click "save model" and overwrite your old .mdl file.

Heres a model you can try it with.

Heres the model: http://csnation.counter-strike.net/cont ... php?id=803

And heres the edited bitmap: http://www.freewebs.com/phobiainfected/slide.bmp

Have fun and stop fucking bothering me with this question!!!!
