Changing Origins in C.S.S Tutorial

1. decompile the model you want using Cannonfodder's HL2 mdl decompiler get it here at http://www.chaosincarnate.net/cannonfodder/cftools.htm make sure you click the boxes do not fix rotations on animations and dump old unweighted .smd's

2. Open the QC. File in the folder you just extracted the model to. You should be able to use WordPad to open it.

3. In the QC. Put he line $origin x y z somewhere

4. Now the x y z will be replaced with numbers so let me explain x means closer or farter to the screen, y means left to right of the screen, and z means up or down on the screen in most cases ive never gone over 6 to -6 so just mess around with it.

5. Next press Ctrl+H to bring up a window in that window put the word fps in the find what box then put snap rotate -90 fps in the replace with box now hit the replace all button and save the QC.

6. Now go to your source sdk file and in the bin folder find the studiomdl.exe compiler now drag your new QC to the studiomdl.exe, but make sure steam is running then do it after the dos box is done go test it out in CSS

I hoped this helped you in your quest to better the CSS world

Enjoy

You forgot somthing major there.

1. when decompiling your model with cannonfodders decompiler you should tick the boxes "do not fix rotations on animations" and "dump old unweighted .smd's"

this is a necesary thing to do or placeing "rotate -90" in the .qc WILL NOT work correctly.

Agreeed, I did this *Logically, it would be the seem for CSS from CS 1.6, so I messed around and did it*

The result I got was, a model ass on my screen, and it was cut

almost exactly the same way it was done in 1.6-

1: get the decompiler
2: decompile with unweighted SMDs and do NOT fixed animation rotations
3: open the .QC (notepad will do but i prefer wordpad. even better, TextPad since it has commandline capabilities)
4: replace (CTRL-H usually. F8 in TextPad) all occurances of 'fps' with 'snap rotate -90 fps' (without the ' marks)
5: add the line '$origin X Y Z' somewhere... (i put mine up at the top. in HLMV X: ?Towards/?Away, Y: -Left/+Right, Z: -Up/+Down... no ' marks )
6: Make sure Steam is running
7: Set your SDK game to Counter-Strike Source
7: Drop the .QC on studiomdl.exe

NOTE: there are limitations imposed by CS:Source on the positioning of the model. if the model is too close or far etc from you, you'll get a consistency error.

DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE YOU MODIFIED MODEL WITHOUT PERMISSION!

cept mine has pictures :P

Options -> Viewmodel mode.

Set FOV to 75ish. I think that's what is the FOV in CS. Doesn't feel like 90.

While we're here, can somebody try and tell me why Studio Compiler and Decompiler have stopped working recently?

They pop up saying that a dll is mising and to reinstall the application. Reinstalling it didn't work.
