I need to clean this thread up ...

Ite, I just spent a good hour typing this for widget (I'm in a good mood, it's sunny outside, ...) so here it goes:

1. Learn the basics of Max by following some of the tutorials that ship with Max. I usually go to basic max tutorials if I want to learn something new (e.g. rig, skin, ...)
2. After you know where the buttons are etc, you might want to decide what kind of "artist" you want to become. If you want to be an animator, well, you're probably going to be less interested in modelling. I personally think a healthy interest in Modelling, animating and texturing is a good thing, especially in game "art". (on a sidenote: the reason why "artist" and "art" are between "" is because I don't regard most people using Max -or any other 3d program, nor myself for that matter,- as an artist.)
3. But anyway, let's assume you want to get into modelling:
NOTE: Tutorials like the Wizard's hat on 3dluvr basically teach you jack shit, so I'm going to stick with tutorials that actually learn you something, at least in my (humble) opinion.
I split them up in categories:

- Getting the basics down
*Yay for Ben Mathis! (aka poopinmymouth). He made this (simply awesome) bench VIDEO tutorial! This really teaches you basic modelling! Grab it from Fileplanet here

- Character Modelling
*Again, we stop by our friendly neighbour-character modeller/texturer Ben Mathis!. Go here and scroll down to the character modelling video. The demon human one, you see a pic of a green guy with 9(!) links to VTM's, all of them hosted on fileplanet. he covers pretty much everything from modelling to uvmapping over to rigging and texturing! Good stuff, although I don't like that method for modelling characters (but that is merely a personal thing)
*There is more! There's this awesome tutorial site on the net much people often forget about! (or even worse: have never heard from it!) 3D TOTAL!!!!This place is just packed with great tutorials!!!!! Let's get it cracking:
The infamous Joan of Arc tutorial Although getting outdated, it does teach you basic methods of character modelling. Even if you don't follow it, read through it. The original was written in french, this is the English translated version. Get the french one if you want to work on your french a bit ;)
*Making a player model for UT I honestly must admit I have only skimmed through it, but it seemed really good! I will read the entire thing if I have the time!
*Other good tutorials to follow (or just read) from 3D total:
-Modelling Sadmike (boxmodelling)
-Modelling a stylised head (boxmodelling)
-Modelling a Fiat500 (sort of edgemodelling)

This should get you started widget, if you are interested in other things (e.g. high poly stuff, these tutorials are mostly about low poly stuff, poke me).
Maybe I'll post this list somewhere else on the forum and update it regularly. I don't know yet. But if needed, poke me.
Hope it's useful ;)

How would I go about importing CS models maps and texture into 3ds, and exporting 3Ds models maps and textures into CS?
